Replacing Parts on a Colts Firearm

As with the purchase of any product, your Colt warranty is only good if you've taken proper care of your gun and followed directions. For this reason, it's very important to know what to do if you need a replacement part for your firearm.

Finding Replacement Parts

In order to find replacement parts for your Colt firearm, you can call your parts distributor to ask for the specific part. Or, you may call 1-800-962-COLT (2658) to request the part that you need.

Following Directions

Once you've received the desired part, it's important to follow Colt's directions for installing that part. All authentic Colt replacement parts have to be installed correctly to make sure that your firearm is functioning right and is safe. They should be used with Colt guns only and should not be used with other firearms.

Protection for Your Gun

It the parts are installed at the Colt factory, then they will probably be protected under Colt's Free Service Agreement. If, however, you decide to have the part installed elsewhere, then the Service Agreement may no longer be valid. If this happens, Colt may not accept liability for any malfunction or problem that happens after this date. This is certainly something important to take into consideration when deciding where to have your new part installed.

Use a Skilled Gunsmith

It is very important to know that the installation of parts should be done by a skilled gunsmith. It is dangerous to try to install Colt parts, or any other parts for that matter, by yourself if you are not an expert in this area.

Colt's Catalog

When identifying your part, it's important to see what it says about it in the Colt's Catalog. If the part has one or two asterisk/s (*) next to it, then it must be installed at the Colt factory. If it doesn't have an asterisk, then it can either be installed at the factory or by another skilled gunsmith.

Make sure that you keep your gun clean and well taken care of at all times. Should you need replacement parts, Colt is happy to help you at any time. It is very important, however, to know where to take your gun to have the new part installed and to be a responsible gun owner.
