What's New with New England Firearms?

As one brand under the Marlin umbrella of firearms, New England Firearms has dependable, accurate and affordable guns. Marlin has, for a number of years, owned H&R, New England Firearms and L.C. Smith brands of rifles and shotguns. As of December, 2007, they had entered in an agreement to be acquired by Remington Arms Company. Now, looking at the last two years, there are many other exciting innovations and changes that the New England Firearms company has undergone.

The Topper Trap Gun

In November of 2007, H&R introduced the first ever Topper Trap Gun. This gun is highly recommended for trap shooting and has a 30" barrel with a raised ventilated rib and double bead sights. It has a carbon steel coated receiver and a trap style recoil pad for both performance and comfort.

The Stainless Steel Thumbhole Ultra Hunter Rifle

H&R 1871 started offering their popular Ultra Hunter single-shot rifle with a thumb hold pistol grip stock. It has a two piece stock that's made from brown colored laminate with a pistol style grip and comb height that are optimized for eye alignment with a scope of your choice. The rifle is easy to handle, due to its overall length, and yet, has maximum performance. It has a synthetic trigger guard and a stainless steel construction. This new rifle is part of the H&R Ultra rifle line.

Ultragon Rifling

In late 2007, H&R introduced a new technology, Ultragon rifling. This new rifling includes six oval lands and grooves with no sharp corners. This unique design allows for bullet spin that doesn't leave any sharp impressions on the sabot jacket or on the Foster type lead slug. It gives a perfect seal with almost no pressure loss and with less distortion of the projectile. This has many advantages. It makes it easier to clean the unit, and makes the barrel last longer. It also produces more accuracy and velocity. The Ultragon rifled slug barrels are available for the slug gun models including the Ultra Slug Hunter line and Tracker II models.

The Ultra Light Slug Hunter

New for 2007 as well was the H&R 1871 Ultra Light Slug Hunter rifle. This shotgun weighs almost three pounds less than the regular Ultra Slug Hunter! It has a fully Ultragon rifled 24" barrel with a length that is perfect for high performance shotgun slug loads. It's easy to maneuver, with a manageable length, and has a barrel with a scope base that's already installed and ready for your use. Like all of the models in the Ultra Slug Hunter line, this gun is incredibly accurate, includes a transfer bar safety and a smooth single shot action that can be opened by simply pushing a lever.
