The Taurus Tradition

Over sixty years ago, Taurus started in Porto Alegre, Brazil as a manufacturer of small tools. They first produced a revolver in 1941, the Model 38101 SO. They were a popular manufacturer in South America and continued to grow in popularity with time. In 1968, they entered the U.S. market, but did not see great success with their efforts there.

Success Begins

In 1980, Taurus got a big break. Beretta won a contract in 1974 to manufacture small arms for the Brazilian army. They created a factory in Brazil that they used until 1980 when their contract finished. At that time, they sold their plant, with everything in it, to Taurus. This included all of their drawings, tools, and machinery along with their experienced work force. After this happened, Taurus was able to improve on their pistols a great deal and created the Taurus PT-92 and the PT-99.

Lifetime Policies

In 1984, Taurus took the American market by storm with their new policy. At a show in Dallas, Texas, they announced that they would have a Lifetime Repair Policy and they were the first company to offer this type of commitment. Since that time, the U.S. branch of the Taurus company has increased their sales each year, and no one has ever exceeded this policy.

Taurus Today

Taurus has been manufacturing excellent firearms for over 70 years. In 1994, Taurus received designation as ISO 9001 from the International Organization for Standardization. This marking indicated that they had excellent manufacturing and marketing practices. Taurus today manufactures exceptional pistols, rifles, carbines and more for law enforcement, the military and regular people who love exceptional quality.
