Walther's Product Lines

Walther manufactures high quality handguns. While they used to produce hunting and target rifles, they now focus on the handgun market. They are distributed by Smith & Wesson and are loved by police, armies and civilians. Here is a run-down of some of their more popular models.

Walther P99

This is a semi-automatic pistol that is made in Germany by Walther Sportwaffen. The original Walther design was conceived in 1994 and the actual handgun was first produced in 1996. The idea was to produce a modern weapon for police and self-defense forces that would incorporate the latest developments in handgun technology while being less expensive than its predecessor.

This handgun has an internal striker with a red-painted striker tip that can be seen at the rear of the slide when the gun is cocked. It has a decocking button, four internal safety tools and a takedown that requires no tools. The sights are adjustable for both windage and elevation. For convenience, it also has interchangeable grip backstraps of different sizes to accommodate the needs of different users. In addition, it has an ambidextrous magazine release incorporated as part of the trigger guard.

Walther P22

When looking at them together, the Walther P22 looks similar to the Walther P99. However, the P22 is 25% smaller than the P99 and chambers the rimfire .22 LR cartridge. The P22 also has a cast polymer grip-frame. Its slide and serial numbered frame receiver inserts are made with cast zinc alloy. The barrel has a rifled steel insert and a steel barrel sleeve. This handgun does not have a decocking lever so the hammer can only be decocked by pulling the trigger. The first shot can be fired as a double action, and all subsequent shots are single action.

Walther PPK

This is the most famous gun in the Walther PP series. PPK is a German acronym meaning Polizeipistole Kriminellmodell (Police Pistol Detective Model). The Walther PP has a fixed barrel and is a blowback-operated pistol. They are mostly all-steel construction with a double-action trigger. It has a complicated lockwork system with many small parts and pins. The sights are fixed and the rear sight blade is dovetailed into the slide. The Walther PPK pistols have a loaded chamber indicator. These models come in 7.65mm caliber and 9mm.

Walther PPS

The Walther handgun PPS is compact in size while still maintaining all of the important features of a larger Walther pistol. It has a number of interesting accessory choices for the consumer.

Walther G22

This is a semi-automatic rifle that is chambered in the .22 long rifle cartridge. It's made of steel and polymer and features a reversible bolt so that the cartridge can be removed from either side of the receiver. There is a spare magazine stored inside the stock as well. This gun is usually wanted by people for informal practice and it comes in either black or green. A scope can also be attached to create longer range capabilities.
