Remington Model Named Rifle of the Year
Remington is proud and honored to have one of their distinguished rifles declared the "Rifle of the Year" by NRA American Hunter Magazine. The Model R-15 VTR Predator was the lucky model to receive the 2009 NRA Golden Bullseye Award. This award was created to emphasize recent advances in new products that are available in the shooting sports.
The Voting
Each of the products for the rifle of the year award is evaluated and voted on by an eight-member committee. The committee includes editors, art staff and long-standing publications staff. Together, they represent a century of experience in the shooting market. To be considered for this esteemed honor, the product has six criteria by which it is evaluated. The product must be one that has recently come to the market and that is widely available to consumers. The product needs to be used and tested by a staff member at Remington or by a regular contributor to the magazine. The product must prove itself reliable in the field, and should either meet or exceed the expectations of the person evaluating it. The product should be innovative in both its design and function and should be one that the honor would see as a great value.
The R-15 VTR Predator
Certainly the R-15 VTR Predator by the Remington Arms Company managed to prove all of these criteria, and to outshine all of the other potential winning rifles. The R-15's barrel is precision-crafted from ChromMoly steel. It is free-flated within the machined-aluminum force-end tube. It has great consistently from shot to shot due to its recessed hunting crown. In addition, it has increased rigidity and weight reduction as a result of the six longitudinal flutes that are in front of the gas block.
Other Great Features
In addition to these great features, the R-15 shows itself to be in a class by itself for other reasons. It has an ergonomic pistol grip and an overall lightweight design that makes it easy to handle and to use. Both the uppers and the lowers are made from aluminum forgings for featherweight durability. This Predator was designed with great input from leading predator authorities and has the Advantage® MAX-1 HDTM camouflage which allows it to blend beautifully in many hunting environments. It is compatible with all aftermarket AR-15 style magazines and accessories and comes ready with a five-round magazine. Finally, it has a 22" barrel. While this gun is only 7.75 pounds - it makes up in impact for what it lacks in size! It is stable, accurate and versatile, making it a clear winner in the American Hunter Magazine competition.
