They are experts in many fields including forging, heat treating, plating and finishing. They can help you to repair or perfect your firearm, all under one roof. In addition, should there be a need for more technical assistance they also have a Metrology Laboratory and Metallurgical Laboratory on their premise.

Forging

They are capable of working with everything from parts that weight only a few ounces to parts that are up to 20 pounds. At their factory they use a 1500 ton press for aluminum and scandium and they have a number of mechanical presses for both cold and hot trimming. In addition, Smith & Wesson's Specialty Services is able to work with the following materials: carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, aluminum and scandium.

Heat Treating

At part of Smith & Wesson's specialty services, they offer controlled quenching atmosphere processes. These include those for oil, nitrogen, vacuum, salt and water. They can verify hardness requirements through their inspection area, and can conduct even more in-depth examinations at their in-house full Metallurgical Laboratory. Their skilled Metallurgist staff can help to answer your heat-treating questions and can offer solutions for you.

Plating and Finishing

They offer a huge range of metal finishing processes that range from polishing and buffing to sandblasting. They can process parts that are up to 60 inches in length.
